Congratulating Jim Comstock on the occasion of his eighty-fifth
birthday, and in appreciation for his many years of dedicated
service to the citizens of West Virginia as editor and
publisher of the West Virginia Hillbilly.
Whereas, The lifetime dream of Jim Comstock was to start a
newspaper in a small town. His first newspaper was titled The News
Letter, and later he began a weekly newspaper, titled the West
Virginia Hillbilly, a homemade paper for rural West Virginians; and
Whereas, Through the years Jim Comstock's West Virginia
Hillbilly has become a publication that has gained the interest of
many by its dedication, not only to current affairs, but a rich
blend of West Virginia's heritage, history, folklore and culture
from years past; and
Whereas, Because of his interest in West Virginians who reside in the rural areas and his dedication to keep them informed, Jim
Comstock has earned the title of "Dean of West Virginia Country
Editors"; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby extends its sincere congratulations to
Jim Comstock on the occasion of his eighty-fifth birthday; and, be
it
Further Resolved,
That "The Dean of West Virginia Country
Editors" and the editor of the West Virginia Hillbilly is hereby
commended for his many years of dedication and commitment to the
citizens of West Virginia through his active involvement in the
preservation of West Virginia's culture and heritage; and, be it
Further Resolved,
That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward
a copy of this resolution to Jim Comstock, editor of the West
Virginia Hillbilly.
